Competitions

Caboolture Little Athletics have their weekly Centre competition on a Friday night at Wolfenden Oval, Caboolture from 5:45pm, starting in August and running through until March, with a break over the Christmas school holidays. Our Tiny Tots and under 6’s age groups have a Centre competition available to them with the focus on Family, Fun & Fitness.  All other age groups have a great array of other competitions available to them throughout the season including other centre’s carnivals, Regional Championships while U9 to U17 can qualify to compete in State Championships.

Uniform

Each LAQ club has its own centre uniform available to purchase from their respective club. Our club uniform consists of a centre shirt/singlet/crop top. Red pants can be purchased from Centre or you can source your own as long as they are plain red. Shoes must be worn. Athletes may wear spikes for certain events on a Friday night. Athletes are welcome to wear skins under their uniform for our weekly competitions.

Parent commitment

Little Athletics like no other sport provides the opportunity for you to be involved in your child’s sport. We need everyone to be involved and assist in running our event areas on Friday nights and the children love having their mum or dad helping at their events. Helping is easy and we will run information sessions at the beginning of the season to show you how. We also need you to offer to assist at times with grounds and equipment care (line marking needs to be done each 3 weeks in summer) and with a little of our fundraising activities like Bunnings BBQ fundraisers. It is a great way to get to know some of the other parents.

History of our club

Caboolture Branch Little Athletics Centre Inc. was first opened in 1981 operating from Caboolture High School. The Centre unfortunately closed in 1987 after failing to form a committee.

The Centre was re-established following a public meeting in 1990 and located at its current venue. Now in our 27th season since being re- established the Centre involves more than 300 young people and their families in its activities each year. The centre operated on a Saturday morning until in 2001 when competition moved to Friday nights with the introduction of floodlighting at the oval.

Our athletics programs have grown over the years. In addition to our weekly competition meets and regular training sessions for our U6 to U17 athletes, we offer a Tiny Tots skills program for 4 year olds, the Athletics Skills Awards Program for our younger athletes and the CAPS Sports Leaders program for our seniors. We link with the State Sporting organisations for athletes with disabilities (AWD) and provide opportunities for athletes with disabilities competing at our Centre. For our U13 to U17 athletes transition opportunities to Queensland Athletics competitions are offered through Caboolture Road Runners Club.

For our senior athletes, parents and volunteers we conduct the nationally-accredited LAQ Officials Scheme and link to accreditation through Athletics Australia. We actively support those of our parents who wish to become accredited Track and Field Coaches.

The Centre has successfully hosted Zone and Regional Championships in 1994/95, 1998/99, 2002/03, 2006/07, 2009/10 & 2014/15 and the LAQ State Pentathlon Championships in 2003/04, Regional Relays in 2020 as well as its own open Track and Field and Pentathlon Carnivals.

In the 2010/2011 and 2021/2022 seasons the Centre was devastated by severe flooding. The assistance and support the Centre received from its members, the local community, the athletics community, Little Athletics Sponsors and the Local, State and Federal Government flood relief funding was incredible. Their generosity enabled us to not only be back up and running but back up and running with brand new throwing and jumping facilities, equipment and canteen and shed fit out.

We extend our thanks to all previous committee members for their hard work and vision. Their commitment has seen the development of a centre of which we are justly proud.
