🏃‍♂️ About Caboolture Little Athletics (CabLAC)

Welcome to the heart of youth track and field in our local community! Caboolture Little Athletics (affectionately known as CabLAC) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to helping children of all skill levels develop physical skills, build confidence, and make lifelong friends in an encouraging environment.

We proudly operate under the banner of Little Athletics Queensland (LAQ) and embrace the core motto: Family, Fun, and Fitness.

❤️ Our Philosophy

Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian sport designed for children of all abilities. Unlike senior athletics, our core focus is on personal improvement. Whether an athlete is striving for a state podium or simply trying to break their own personal best (PB) on a Friday night meet, every single breakthrough is celebrated!

Our programs specially modify track and field events (including running, jumping, throwing, and walking) to suit the physical development and safety of growing children. From our Tiny Tots program right up to our senior age groups, our track provides a welcoming environment where children are encouraged to challenge themselves at their own pace.

🏟️ Our Facilities & Assets

CabLAC operates permanently out of Wolfenden Oval, nestled within the Centenary Lakes Sports Complex. Thanks to our field floodlighting, our weekly competition meets run under lights on Friday evenings throughout the summer season.

Our facility is equipped with modern, professional-grade infrastructure, including:

  • A beautifully maintained grass track and custom field event zones.
  • Electronic timing gates, trackside laptops, and digital results tracking via ResultsHQ, allowing families to monitor their child’s PBs from home.
  • Structurally secured clubhouse enclosures and gear sheds to protect our equipment.
  • The Vohland Canteen: Built in 2025 directly under the clubhouse, this modern facility is proudly named in honor of Karen Vohland and her family to recognize their historic dedication and hard work for the club.

Our facility is structured to accommodate local school carnivals, community groups, and regional track events, providing advanced timing gate systems and field hire services to the wider community.

🤝 Community Spirit & Volunteer Support

CabLAC is built entirely on volunteer energy, and a successful meet relies on family involvement. While there is no mandatory roster, our community thrives when parents and supporters chip in – whether that means assisting at a track event, helping out at our community Bunnings BBQs, or coming together to protect our grounds during major regional weather events.

Getting involved is simple, and we run helpful information sessions at the start of every season to guide you through the basics. It is the absolute best way to connect with other local families while cheering on your children.

📜 Our Club History

The Caboolture Branch Little Athletics Centre originally opened its gates in 1981, operating out of the Caboolture High School grounds. Following a temporary recess in the late 1980s, a dedicated public meeting in 1990 successfully re-established the center at its permanent home at Wolfenden Oval.

In 2001, our weekly competition officially moved from hot Saturday mornings to Friday evenings with the introduction of ground floodlighting. Over the decades, our track has proudly hosted numerous Zone, Regional, and State Pentathlon Championships.

Our resilience has been proven time and again through major local challenges. Following devastating regional flood events in both 2011 and 2022, the incredible generosity of our members, local volunteers, and corporate sponsors enabled us to completely rebuild. Today, CabLAC stands stronger than ever, boasting some of the finest community athletic equipment and structures in the region.

⚖️ Centre Governance & Regulations

CabLAC operates under a transparent organizational structure managed by an elected Executive Committee of volunteers. Our centre maintains an in-depth constitutional framework that directly adopts the regulations of Little Athletics Queensland (LAQ), supported by our own localized club bylaws to ensure a safe, fair, and compliant environment for all members.

🏆 Life Members & Hall of Fame

Our club stands on the shoulders of the incredible volunteers, parents, and coaches who have dedicated decades of service to our youth. We proudly recognize our Life Members and Hall of Fame inductees whose hard work, vision, and volunteer hours continue to guide the legacy of CabLAC.

🎽 Uniform Requirements at a Glance

To maintain our identity on the track and when representing our centre at external events, all registered athletes compete in the official club uniform shirt, singlet, or crop top.

For shorts and pants, flexibility is fully supported: athletes may wear the official branded club shorts or bike pants available from the clubhouse shop, or source their own plain red or plain black bottoms (which must be free from external branding logos or visible pockets). Under‑uniform skins are also welcome during our weekly meets.

Footwear & Safety Regulations:

  • Enclosed Shoes Required: For the safety of our athletes, enclosed shoes must be worn at all times while at the centre. Bare feet are strictly prohibited on the field.
  • Spike Shoe Rules: Athletic spikes are permitted for specific events and age groups in accordance with official competition regulations. However, spikes must be carried between event stations and are never to be worn while walking across the grounds or inside the clubhouse.
